Hi, I'm Melissa Clackum, IBCLC, founder of Ladybug Lactation LLC.
I am a 2020 graduate of the Georgia Northwestern Technical College Lactation Program. I passed my IBCLC board exam in July 2021. Before stepping out on faith and opening Ladybug Lactation, I previously worked for another local private practice where I was the lead consultant and office manager. My passion for breastfeeding started when I breastfed all four of my children. I am proud to have breastfed for over eight years consecutively (for three different children). I have personal experience with breastfeeding with low milk supply, oversupply, breastfeeding through pregnancy, and tandem feeding.
Ladybug Lactation was created in loving remembrance of the babies I lost through miscarriage. Ladybugs represent the tiny lives that forever changed my heart and strengthened my calling to serve mothers and babies. What began in loss grew into a mission of compassion, encouragement, and skilled support for families during one of the most meaningful seasons of life.
As an IBCLC, I provide evidence-based, personalized lactation care for families navigating a variety of feeding challenges. I have a special passion for helping babies and mothers who need more complex support and guidance.
I specialize in supporting:
- Babies with oral dysfunction (IBCLC Masterclass attendee)
- Breast or bottle refusal
- Tandem feeding
- Mothers navigating challenging or unique breastfeeding situations
My goal is to meet each family where they are, offering practical solutions, reassurance, and compassionate care so they can feel confident in feeding their baby. My Christian faith is the foundation of how I serve others. I believe every mother and baby is a gift from God, and it is an honor to support families as they nurture, bond, and grow together.
At Ladybug Lactation, you will find a welcoming and supportive space where your concerns are heard, your questions are valued, and your feeding journey is respected. When I am not busy working for Ladybug Lactation, you’ll find me spending time with my family. I am happily married and have four amazing children (one girl and three boys). My hobbies include reading my Bible and other books, gardening, watching my children’s sports, and watching the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball.
